In-demand Kanu, who had been on trial at Man Utd, has put pen to paper at the EBB. Jordan Chesmin reports.
Highly rated winger Idris Kanu has committed his immediate future to Aldershot Town, by signing his first professional contract on his 17th birthday. The deal will keep him at the EBB stadium until 2019.
Kanu, who was previously on trial at Premier League giants Manchester United, joined The Shots in October on a temporary basis, and has since impressed manager Gary Waddock.
It’s been a promising start to life in Hampshire for the Londoner, who scored his third senior goal for the club last week against Boreham Wood in the National League.
On signing his new deal, the young prospect spoke with ShotsTV and said: “I’ve always wanted to be a professional footballer- It’s a dream come true.”
The former West Ham academy player became The Shots’ youngest ever player at 16 years 308 days, and also their youngest scorer (16 years 343 days).
“We are delighted that Idris has signed his first professional contract with Aldershot Town” said Waddock. “He has made a fantastic start to his career here and now it is up to myself and [assistant manager] James Rowe to help him fulfill his undoubted potential.”
