The former Stanines player is winning rave reviews, as Dharma Bhaglia reports.Staines Town have had very few players achieve their ultimate ambitions, but one player that continues to impress is former midfielder, Joe Aribo.
The 20-year-old sensation, who signed for Charlton Athletic in the summer, continues to be in the spotlight and is receiving glowing reviews.
Aribo first started to make a name for himself playing under former Staines head coach, Marcus Gayle at Whetsheaf Park. Speaking to Get Surrey, Gayle said about his former player: “Joe’s a really good kid and what I noticed in him at an early age is he had the right character and was humble. He was comfortable in himself and obviously had ability. He has that added advantage of having had six months at Staines where he played against men and he has developed physically.
“I like to think I mentored him and I told him once that if he and I were still where we were in two years’ time then neither of us were doing our jobs properly.
“He made a promise to me that he would make it as a pro and I knew then he was deadly serious. Not every player with his ability can back that up even though they talk the talk. The only tongues he was going to use were the ones in his boots.”
Gayle then also told Get Surrey about how Aribo’s transition from Staines to Charlton has worked out and how he’s managed to fit in so well and most importantly so quickly.
“Joe knew people there because he’s from that side of town and he fitted in straight away and has developed well.
“I’m delighted for him. He’s well-mannered and now he needs a good year at League One level to progress but I don’t think it will be long before he makes the jump up. Hopefully he can join that small band of non-league players who make it to the Premier League. I think he will.”
Aribo had an outstanding start to his Charlton career setting up three goals for his new club as they stomped Bristol Rovers 4-1.
The starlet has extended his current stay with the Addicks keeping him at the club until the year 2019. A move from League One to either the Championship or Premier League could be on the cards sooner rather than later should the youngster continue to impress week in week out and it would be very tough for the currently 16th placed outlet to hold on to their man.
